About Us
Crux Forged Climbing
Crux Forged Climbing was born in March 2024 from nearly 30 years combined passion, experience, and dedication to the craft of climbing. Started by two lifelong climbers and mechanical engineers, we specialize in creating high‑quality handmade wood climbing holds, precision wood training tools, and unique climbing holds made with real rock.
Every hold is individually crafted with intention. shaped for movement, and designed to bring texture, creativity, and authenticity to your training space. We prioritize sustainability by using scrap and reclaimed hardwood lumber whenever possible, transforming overlooked pieces of wood into functional art that’s as beautiful as it is strong.
Based in Lexington, Kentucky, we’re lucky to live and work right next door to one of the world’s premier climbing destinations: the Red River Gorge. Climbers travel from all over the globe to experience its world‑class Corbin sandstone, and it is a large inspiration for everything we make. Whether it's a sleek wooden edge for precision training or a natural stone hold that captures the feel of real rock, our work is shaped by the landscapes and climbing culture that surround us.
At Crux Forged, every product reflects deep climbing experience, careful engineering, and a commitment to quality you can feel in every grip.
Founder
Aaron McNely
Hi, I’m Aaron, a mechanical engineer, climber of nearly 17 years, and the hands behind every item crafted. Climbing has been a constant in my life for almost two decades.
With a background in mechanical engineering, I approach hold making with the same mindset I bring to engineering: quality, precision, durability, and problem‑solving. But above all, I build holds with a climber’s intuition. Focused on movement, texture, and the unique feel that turns a simple piece of wood or stone into something worth grabbing.
Whether you’re looking for beautiful wooden holds, real‑rock grips, or just gear built by someone who genuinely loves climbing — I’m excited to share what I make.
